Upuan by Glock-9 ft. Jeazell Grutas
Filipino rapper Gloc-9 is a trailblazer in the Pinoy hip-hop scene. Born Aristotle Pollisco in the Rizal province port town of Binangonan, he got his start in the underground hip-hop scene with the gangsta rap group Death Threat. Choosing the moniker Gloc-9, Pollisco would release a handful of albums with the group, including 1997's quadruple-platinum Kings of da Underground. He parted ways with the unit in 1999, making his solo debut four years later with the self-titled Gloc-9 (Star Music).
As a result of this background information of him, he is widely known as a Filipino hip-hop artist who tackles social issues such as social injustices, poverty, and patriotism. In this regard, Glock 9's composition Upuan represents what he experienced with how the Philippine government governs our country.
Honestly, when the first time I heard the song Upuan, I liked it right away because of the engaging beat and also because this kind of music is my type. However, the second time I listened to this song, I discovered that it has a hidden meaning wherein I can say that I can relate to the song "Upuan" because it argues about one of the biggest problems when it comes to Philippine politics, and these are the elected corrupt politicians who did nothing to help people to live a better life under their administration, but the only thing they did was abuse their power and steal the nation's money.
As of December 20, 2011, Upuan was released by Glock 9. The song Upuan serves as a reminder to Filipino citizens as well as to awaken the minds of Filipinos that there is something wrong with the characteristics of politicians who are elected and how they govern the Philippines. Aside from that, Glock 9 wants to expose the real reasons why the Philippines is still ruled by corrupt politicians for decades, and this is because a lot of Filipino voters are bandwagon and do not take the election seriously.
Di ko alam kung talagang maraming harang
O mataas lang ang bakod
O nagbubulag-bulagan lamang po kayo
Kahit sa dami ng pera niyo
Walang doktor na makapagpapalinaw ng mga mata niyo
